Our
Facility
We lease several
2.4 GHz Pentium 4 and Xeon servers from a data
center in Northern Florida with several backup facilities on the east coast.
Why
this location, to be 100% honest, they were not our first choice as a
location to house our servers. We would prefer to have the servers housed
locally in the Fredericksburg area. The problem with that is that there
are very few reliable Internet connections in the area and the infrastructure that we require is just not here yet. Our first choice
outside that area did not prove to be reliable in server uptime and connections
to the Internet. We require that our servers are housed in a commercial grade Telco facility which has specific requirements. Since we made the move to this facility over five years ago, we have not experienced any major issues.
Why
leasing?
Leasing
the servers allowed us to provide our customers with the same services as we could offer if we built a facility locally. This also allows us to upgrade servers more often.
The
Building
For
us location was of fundamental importance when choosing a data center.
The Florida facility is housed in the Peak10 Network Operations Center. Peak10 is a major player in the Internet
service provider arena on the east coast. We choose this location very carefully.
The Networks
The
networks for both the main facility and the alternate facility are connected to the Internet backbone in
several different locations with multiple OC x circuits (high-speed, high-capacity
data lines connecting to the Internet) or faster connections
with major providers including Level3, Qwest, AT&T, Time Warner and Sprint. We have chosen to use this
method (over housing our servers locally) to avoid unreliable network connections. The Fredericksburg area has very few connections to the Internet
backbone (with none of them being as reliable as we require).
Community Commitment
Simply
Web Services is a family owned and operated business, with strong connections
to the Fredericksburg,
Spotsylvania and Stafford area. If you are looking for a listing of other
local providers, you can obtain that listing from SimplyFredericksburg.com.
For
those of you that were hosting with one of those companies that vanished,
we want to start by apologizing for the lack of service you were receiving.
We would normally try to offer you reasons as to why this happens and try
to ensure you that this will not happen with us. It seems that regardless
of how long your ISP has been in service and what organizations they may
belong to, they can still disappear overnight. This includes large providers like Bayside Networks, FBOL.net
(Virtual Electronic Commerce Corporation) and Illuminet.net (now owned
by Virginia MicroComputer Services). If you lost your
site to one of those companies, or from some other "disaster", Simply Web
Services can help you get your site back online. If you have a copy of
your website, we can have you up and running again in 24-48 hours. If not,
all hope may not be lost; we may be able to find a copy of your data. If
you need your site redesigned, we can also take care of that.
What's
stopping me from going directly to your services providers?
Nothing is stopping you; please feel free to host your site with whatever company you feel comfortable with. We will however tell you that our prices are lower than what our providers offer to the direct public. We will also tell you that they do not provide the level of technical support that a reseller does. Companies like our provider make their money on resellers, not individual accounts. In other words, they cater to groups, not individuals. With those places, you will not likely be treated as just another account or number, not with Simply Web Services. Sign up today and join our family.
