Domain Name FAQ's
What is a domain name?
A domain name is
an Internet address (example simplywebservices.com): it is similar to a
customized license plate or a permanent phone number or address. A domain
name also allows you to receive e-mail at a customized e-mail address.
If your organization's name is Tom's Hardware, you could register the domain
name tomshardware.com and your e-mail address could be something like tom@tomshardware.com.
Basically speaking, your domain name is the core of your Internet identity,
your online brand. Your customers will remember this name and use it to
find out about your products and services. And since no two parties can
ever hold the same Web Address simultaneously, your Internet identity is
totally unique. Please keep in-mind that you own the domain name for 2
years initially then annually there after.
Why domain names and what
is a URL then?
Domain names are
an easy way to remember where a website is at. If we did not use domain
names, then we would have to us numbers. Each computer on the internet
has is assigned an address, this address known as an IP address is unique
to that computer during that connection to the internet. Remembering www.name.com
is easier than trying to remember 192.55.183.10. A URL (Uniform Resource
Locator) is really nothing more that the domain name or location of the
website. http://www.tomshardware.com would be a URL. It much like your
address for your house, 123 There Street is easy to find than lot 314,
plot 12, zone D.
Can you register a domain
name for me? Can you set up domains other than .com, .org, and .net?
We can register
.com, .org, and .net names for $12.95/year, with you as the registrant. We
can also assist with registering other domains, as well (fees for registering
other domains will vary by country). Please contact our sales department
if you require assistance in registering other domain types.
Who owns my domain name?
Some companies will
register your domain for free, but they will list themselves as all of
the contacts for your domain - Administration, Billing and Technical. Simply
Web Services will register your domain and you will be the registered owner
of your domain. Our name is simply listed in the Technical Contact section
of the registration. You and your company are the Billing and Administration
contacts. So if you choose to leave Simply Web Services and move the domain,
you may simply put in for a transfer request to one of the InterNIC registered
Registrars and move the domain with ease. We will even help you move it if you desire.

currently have a domain name with another web hosting service, can I transfer
